Is Physiotherapy covered by medicare in Bunbury at Veen Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the overall well-being of individuals dealing with chronic conditions or injuries. In this blog, we’ll delve into the questions of whether physiotherapists bulk bill and if physiotherapy is covered by Medicare, with a special focus on the Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDM).

Physiotherapy services in Australia are not typically covered by the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS). However, there is a valuable exception for individuals dealing with chronic conditions through the medicare initiative, Chronic Disease Management Plan.

How does CDM work?

  1. Consultation Process:
    • Book an initial consultation online with one of our experienced physiotherapists. This is 30 minute duration.
    • During this session, you’ll receive a clear diagnosis, a detailed recovery timeframe, and hands-on physiotherapy treatment.
  2. GP Involvement:
    • To access the CDM, you need a referral from your General Practitioner (GP). The GP assesses whether your condition qualifies for chronic disease management and helps create a management plan.
    • To be eligible for a chronic disease management plan you need to have a condition for longer than 6 months, or the condition is likely to last longer than 6 months.
  3. Number of Sessions:
    • With the CDM, you are eligible for up to 5 physiotherapy sessions per calendar year.
  4. Management Plan:
    • We take care of the paperwork for you. After your initial session, we send a letter to your GP outlining our management plan, as this plan must originate from a doctor.
    • After your final session, we send a letter to your GP about how the treatment and management went.

What is the payment and claims process?

  1. Booking an Appointment:
    • You can conveniently book a physiotherapy appointment online.
  2. Payment Process:
    • The consultation fee is $58.30, which we receive from medicare through swiping your medicare card into our hicaps machine. We place this money onto your debit card.
    • We are only able to put this money onto a debit card, credit cards are unfortunately not accepted.
    • You then pay for the session with the $58.30 provided by medicare by debit card, credit card or cash.

Follow-up appointments

  • 30-Minute Sessions ($99):
    • For follow-up appointments lasting 30 minutes, you pay $40.70.
  • 20-Minute Sessions (Free):
    • Medicare covers the $58.30 for follow-up appointments lasting 20 minutes.

Navigating the costs associated with physiotherapy is made more accessible through initiatives like the Chronic Disease Management Plan. By understanding the process, eligibility criteria, and payment procedures, individuals can make informed decisions about seeking physiotherapy services while ensuring financial convenience at Veen Physiotherapy clinic in Bunbury. If you’ve been dealing with a chronic condition for more than six months, consult with your GP to explore the benefits of the CDM and embark on a journey towards improved health and well-being.
